7.25.2011 Custom Tower Design for Solar Project

In April 2010, Millard's engineering department was approached by Natural Resource Canada to help design a tower to be used in the upgrade of its Seismic Monitoring centers. The centers are located in a remote region of Canada - Yellowknife, Northwest Territories - where harsh weather conditions and limited infrastructure make operation and routine maintenance quite cumbersome.

Based on Millard's experience for supplying robust, reliable, and maintenance-free towers to the Canadian North for over 50 years, Millard was sole-sourced to design twenty-six (26) 25ft (7.5m) tilt-to-service towers able to support an array of solar panels. The panels can be easily lowered to the ground using Millard's unique tilt-to-service feature and serviced by a single person. In addition, the tower is strong enough to withstand high wind and ice loads. The design also took into consideration tower reverberation that could affect seismic readings.

The first of twenty-six tower installations was just completed and it was put to the test immediately. Within two weeks, the area experienced wind gusts upwards of 120km/h. The verdict? Like its Millard predecessors, the 25ft (7.5m) custom tilt-to-service tower will stand for decades to come.

6.14.2011 Millard Unveils New Glide Path Design

After ongoing discussions with customers, Millard determined that there was a market need for an improved ILS Glide Path tower. Putting their brains to work, Millard's engineering team developed a tower that offers the same structural integrity but uses less material, is easier to install, is more cost-effective and is aesthetically pleasing. Not long after, Millard received its first sale of the redesigned tower. The tower will be shipped to Sierra Leone for installation in August 2011.

5.26.2011 CANEW 2011 in Montreal

Millard Towers will once again be participating in the Canadian Airports National Electrical Workshop (CANEW), hosted by the Canadian Airports Electrical Association in Montreal, Quebec. CANEW is held every year in September in a different Canadian city and gathers members of the airport industry, predominantly in the electrical field, to discuss the latest topics relating to their field.

This event is designed to exchange ideas, experiences and technical expertise to solve problems and promote new technologies surrounding the development, maintenance and operation of airports and their infrastructure. Later in the week, the event opens the doors to its trade show for the exhibitors to promote their products and technologies to help improve the quality, safety and service levels of airports.

Millard Towers is one of CANEW's regulars and also a proud sponsor of the event. Millard Towers would like to thank the Canadian Airports Electrical Association for putting on the event and is looking forward to seeing everyone there. Come swing by our booth and say "Hello"!
