ICAO Compliance

The ICAO Aerodrome Design Manual Part 6, Frangibility: Doc 9157 AN/901 Ch. 1-7 outlines the design, testing, and installation of frangible structures at airports. It states that elevated approach lights and their supporting structures should be frangible.

Millard frangible towers not only conform to the ICAO design and testing standards, but were used in establishing the frangible criteria and testing methods later adopted by the ICAO Aerodrome Design Manual.

As a minimum requirement for a frangible structure, an aircraft of 3000kg impacting the tower at 140km/h during landing or take-off should be able to continue safely without impairing its flight. This requirement is proven by means of full scale tests and computer evaluations. Millard Towers meets or exceeds this criterion.
